Help us build a Mushroom Garden!
Mushroom Garden for Birdhouse Community Garden:
In accordance with Birdhouse’s goals to grow food for the community, offer educational opportunities, and create a beautiful and engaging neighborhood space, we are planning to install a mushroom garden behind the shed. This project would bring life to the path behind the shed, and provide food production and new learning opportunities in the garden’s most shaded area.
Here’s what the timeline looks like: Mushrooms appear 6-18 months after installation. Production occurs seasonally for 4-8 years. The installation will be removed or replaced when it is done producing.

We could use some helping hands for building our mushroom garden! If you’re interested in fungi, this is a great opportunity to learn about cultinating mushrooms in an outdoor environment. Chandler from the Richmond Mycological Society will be leading the workday, where we’ll be incoulating, constructing, and decorating. It’ll be a good time!
